Charles Eames
Charles Eames, born in St. Louis, Missouri has become famous for his turnable lounge chair and the ottoman, which are forming an design entity. They are part of our collection of modern "classic style" furniture.
Charles Eames studied architecture at the Washington University. He received a scholarship for the Cranbook Academy of Arts in Michigan in 1936, where he later worked at as a teacher.
Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia and Ray Kaiser were some famous colleagues in his life. Ray became his wife in 1941.
After World War II Charles Eames´work was shown in the
´Museum of Modern Art´ for the first time in an exclusive exhibition. In the upcoming years Charles Eames, his wife and the manufacturer Herman Miller developed a straight, rational furniture design.
