The Red & Blue chair considered to be the first modern chair is probably because Gerrit Rietveld designed this Bauhaus chair in the year 1919. Despite the deliberate omission of any upholstery of the chair it's amazingly comfortable. Here the conventional chair designs was broken again with the ideas. This now famous chair creation, that designed by Rietveld himself as sculpture, will be added to the Bauhaus exhibition in 1923. His other, beyond all borders famous chair design, is the Zig-Zag chair*. Its simple geometric form without any ornamental surface design, refer to the most original concept ideas of Bauhaus furniture. Aesthetic Realism which eventually leads back to elementary aesthetic values. Through his work and design concepts he influenced the Bauhaus movement to one of the most influential formal languages of "modern times".
