Like his famous contemporaries L.M. van der Rohe and Le Corbusier constitutes their art design in strict geometric or cubic furniture, Joseph Hoffmann has expressed the functions as well as the shapes of his furniture in clear geometric objects. His highest commitment was the constant execution of academic specialization and craft skill in architecture and furniture. Like all great designers Josef Hoffmann* also changed both the functions and the shapes of the furniture of his time. The cube chair from 1910 was the beginning of his successful series of linear and geometrically shaped furniture. Here in after yet arised the two-seater* and a three seater cube*. Some art historians hold Josef Hoffmann's designs for a precursor of that time evolving art form of cubism.
