In 1914 the writer Paul Scheerbart wrote about the aesthetic impossibility of the chair of steel. Even one decade later, chairs made of steel, especially the cantilever versions of the Bauhaus style, went to spectacular design objects. By the very technical impact of the cantilever that is cool, elegant and clear at the same time, they became among others, to symbols of the "Modern". Only since about 1926 curved steel became the material for furniture design. The Brno cantilever chair from 1929 gives a special seating comfort due to the curved shapes of the spring steel. The luxury variant of the chair was designed for the dining room of Villa Tugendhat* in Brno. For this villa in the Bauhaus style, design and shape, L.M. van der Rohe* was responsible.
